Vittorio Corbo

He is Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of Chile since May 2003.

He is Commercial Engineer graduated from University of Chile and he received a PhD degree from MIT in 1971. He is full professor at the Institute of Economy from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (since 1981 until today).

Also, he is a Board member of the Chilean Pacific Foundation, and member of the International Advisory Board of the Center for Social and Economic Research (CASE) in Warsaw, Poland; and from 1999 until today, at the Consultative Council of the Stanford Center for International Development. Since last year he is member of the Chief Economist Advisory Council of the World Bank.

Mr. Corbo was Chief of the Macroeconomic Adjustment and Growth Division of the World Bank (1984-1991), Professor of Economics at Concordia University in Canada (1972-1981), Professorial Lecturer in Economics at Georgetown University in the USA (1984-1991) and member of the Executive Board of the African Economic Research Consortium with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya (1992-1996), Vice President of the International Economic Association (1998-2002), and member of the Council of the Econometric Society (1998-2001).

He was a frequent consultant for the World Bank, IDB and the International Monetary Fund. He was also economic advisor for the Santander-Chile Group (1991-2003), Director of Santander-Chile Bank (1995-2003), of Universia-Chile (2000-2003), member of the Board of Directors of the Global Development Network (1999-2003) and he has been Consultant for major domestic and international corporations (1979-1984 and 1991-2003).

He was recently a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Research on Economic Development and Policy Reform of Stanford University (January/February 1999) and a Visiting Senior Scholar at the Research Department of the IMF (January/February 2000).

He has worked in more than 10 countries, lecturing in seminars in more than 20 countries and in major universities around the world. He is author and editor of nine books and more than one hundred articles published in specialized international economy books and journals.

He is a well recognized specialist in macro economy, international trade, adjustment and economic development. He is also member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Development Economics, and the Journal of Applied Economics.

Mr. Corbo is Chilean, married with two children.
